Time flies…

Filed under: General — admin @ 2:40 pm

Caleb is over a month now and the time has flown by. He is going to be grown, married and with a little one of his own sooner than I can imagine. I often think as I stare into his eyes and try to cherish moments with him because I know he will grow up so fast. He is so alert and attentive to his surroundings.

Life in San Antonio has been good. We are enjoying the city life, but often reminisce about life closer to family and friends. Although we have only been here a few months we have had the opportnity to befriend Caleb, Reagan and AbigailGroom. You don’t realize how wonderful it is to have contact with someone outside your home, that lives in the same town just minutes away, who are inthe same stage in life. I am definitely looking forward to making more friends in the area, but have not yet been too proactive. Chad is much better.

John MacArthur taught here in San Antonio a couple weeks ago at an installation service for the pastor at the church we have been visiting. He taught two premises: 1. Christ is Lord, 2. We are slaves (the greek translationin the new testament for servant/bondservant should actually be translated slave each time). It is interesting that out of 21 translations of the Bible every one translates the Greek word doula as servant when it actually unequivocally means slave. It is good to have that perspective; we were bought, we serve only one master, just as a slave would.

One more thing, on Sunday evening services at Believer’s Fellowship, Bruce Blakely, the pastor at Believer’s Fellowship, preached on John 10, the good shepherd. He opened with describing post modernism and modernism. It is very interesting to think about how a culture is shaped by an overriding philosophical premise that shapes how the average man thinks. Such as now, in postmodern times people tend to reject truth because “there is no truth.” The claim is we are subjective?rather than?objective. For more information read, “The Truth War” by John MacArthur.

Motherhood

Filed under: General — admin @ 9:47 am

Being a mom is hard. On the other hand it is so rewarding and wonderful. The past three weeks have been a whirlwind of little sleep, nursing frustrations, visitors, and tons of flooding emotions.  It has calmed down considerably. It was great to have so many friends and family come visit and help us care for our little boy (and for me).

We had a doctor’s visit last week and he has gained weight (6 pounds 13 ounces - an additional 2 ounces). The doctor said he should gain about an ounce a day, so I am sure he is over 7 pounds now. Some of his clothes are actually starting to fit a little better and his long skinny, fingers are getting a little chubby.

Some mom worries: is he sleeping enough (the doctor said he should be sleeping 18 hours- he doesn’t sleep that much), is he eating enough and am I getting enough food of nutritional value to provide him all those good nutrients (does ice cream count for dairy?).

Some of my favorite moments with Caleb is when he looks into my eyes, when he smiles when he finishes eating, his peacefullness when he is sleeping, the little sounds he makes. He loves to stay awake and look around, he doesn’t like to sleep, but we have learned a few tricks to get him to sleep. He is precious. We love him so much!

Yesterday we made a long trip, about an hour each way, to Seguin. Caleb and I visited my dad and I got a free oil change in the explorer. He slept the whole way there and back. It was our first time to nurse outside our own home, and it went well. I have to practice being discreet so I can nurse him wherever we happen to be when he gets hungry. Any tips from those moms out there?

Unfortunately, our camera is once again not working, but luckily everyone else had a working one.  Our should be fixed in a few weeks, hopefully. Here are some updated photos our Caleb. He is growing!!!
