Thoughts on the Weekend

Filed under: General — admin @ 9:16 pm

We had a somewhat eventful 2 days this weekend. To start the weekend we enjoyed a tasty dinner at Franco’s, a local mexican restaurant, with Slade and Laura Cozart, and Silas and Shea Politte with Kyle.

On Saturday the 6th annual Spring Bible Conference at Sovereign Grace Particular Baptist Church began with Randy Guawain sharing a comparative survey of theological perspectives on salvation (Universalism,Calvinism, Armenianism). Jim Thigpen taught on the doctrine of predestination, and Slade Cozart taught on the sovereignty of God. Stirring thoughts abounded in my mind as I was reminded on who God is and how he works in a time eternal that is indescribable and unfathomable to man. Chad taught a message on the providence of God on Sunday which also helped to describe the character of God.
Along this weekend conference, books that I have been reading, and a couple of blogs that I just read before I began writing this one and I was reminded of how thoughtless I have been with the everyday happenings of my own life. God has set forth every action, thought, and event that is before me and the whole universe every second of every day, yet I fail to acknowledge this through prayer, study, work, my marriage to Chad and in the relationships that are created and built upon every day. The men that God used this weekend to tell of his character reminded me of who God is and why I am here. My thoughts are often bound in this world. What a sinner I am.

On a much lighter note. Chad, Slade, Laura and I also volunteered at the 25th Annual Spring Chicken Affair in an effort to raise funds for West Texas Rehab Center (where I am employed). It is good to work for an organization that works hard to treat every patient regardless of their financial contribution to their care. Here are a couple pictures.

Weekend Adventure

Filed under: General — admin @ 6:11 pm

After work on Friday evening Chad and I drove down to Seguin to stay the night and visit my dad. Saturday morning we met with my mom (who flew to Texas from Washington) and drove to Austin. In Austin we met with my sister, her friend, and my brother to eat lunch and visit. My mom flew to Austin to visit my brother before he departs to Iraq. He will be leaving in a couple of weeks.

Chad and I also attended the wedding of one of my classmates from grad school. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding overlooking Austin. We also took my mom out to eat at the Cheesecake factory (of course, it was my idea to go there…always thinking of dessert). The food was delicious and to top it off we each had a yummy piece of cheesecake. It gets even better: Chad did not even ask to go to a bookstore and we were even a few yards away from a two story Barne’s & Noble. What a selfless husband. Here are some pictures of our weekend adventure.

We played tennis again with Slade and Laura. We always lose and Chad loves to throw his racket. We may have to buy the third racket for Chad.

Some things we learned from this weekend:
1. You don’t get much sleep when you share a twin bed.

2. You don’t get quality sleep when you sleep on the floor (thanks for letting us sleep on your floor Sara).

3. Austin is much greener than San Angelo, but can you sacrifice beauty for quiet and convenient living (ie. 6 minute walk to work across an empty field in town)?

4. I am not very good at taking a lot of pictures.

5. The wildflowers are beautiful in the hill country.

6. We are not very good losers.
